At the beginning of the quarter, our groups were made up randomly by Mr. Blake, it was something that all of the class had to adjust to. When we first started our project, we had a hard time coming up with a good plan, but each of our teammates were comfortable with each other and we all ended up connecting by the end of our project. During this project i learned alot about saving energy and making people aware of how much energy they are using, because doing that will make a big impact on the earth. The things that i liked about this project was putting up fun posters and fliers around Konia building to make the teachers and students aware of how much energy they are wasting by leaving the ac and lights on in the classroom while it is not occupied. I did not like having to stay after school to present our project. One thing that I think could've been done to help improve this project is to give each group a sum of money from the school to each group to put into their project to make a dramatic change, and the money has to be made back through sustainability by saving the school money.

I learned that electricity bills are very expensive and can easily be reduced by saving energy. Doing things like turning off the lights when they are not needed, closing the door when the ac is on, and remembering to turn everything off when no one is in the room. I liked that we made a project that spreads the word to make a difference. Because if we can spread the awareness to some people, then they can spread it to other people and the message can keep going. I did not like that we did not have a lot of time. The posters were only approved the week that we had to present and the information we needed for the posters were given to us after a week or so after we requested for it. If we could have more time for the things we need like the information and the posters then that would help with the project.
This last quarter came with much change and new learning experiences. We were able to get into new groups with people we may not have been so close with at the start of the year, and learned to work together in many different ways. We started off with creating a new website with our groups instead of our individual selves. Within this new website, our job was to continuously blog post everyday about whatever it is that we did. Each team member took a specific day and we posted everyday. As a part of our final project, we were also to work with these groups in creating a more sustainable environment for Kamehameha Schools. This was the main focus of the 4th quarter because the entire process took weeks to actually complete. My group, Kuleana no Kapalama, decided to focus on the energy use our school utilizes everyday. Over the course of 10 weeks we were able to collect information, talk to different people, and ultimately find some solutions for the problems. Simple things like being aware of lights and AC's on without any occupants is something we really tried to get across to our audience. We were able to pair up with another group for the final project and clearly talk about our issues and the solutions we had. I say that it was a success and I was very proud of my group because we worked hard and hope that our project sparks some interest for future students to come.
Looking back at where my group and I began, I am so proud. We began as a very timid group who was not comfortable even sharing our ideas or even talking! We went through a whole process of changing our topic, altering our plans to our circumstances, and even merging with another group!. I think each of us really grew through this experience. We all learned how to step up our game and to take chances as well as communicate with each other.
On top of the growth, I am beyond proud of my group and their performance on Friday! They all did so well and I was pretty confident in them but I still was not 100% sure that our presentation would go as well as it did. I am super happy I got the chance to do this project and for the group(s) that I did it with! Last night we had our presentation of our projects at school. Overall, I thought it went super well and my group and the Power Rangers did awesome! I am super proud of everything my group accomplished and the way they presented last night. It was actually kind of fun presenting and it felt super comfortable being up there. I really enjoyed presenting and also seeing the other groups presentations and all of the hard work they put into their projects!
Today in class we will be rehearsing for our presentation tomorrow night! I think we are all a little nervous but I think after we practice today we will feel more confident. We are currently doing our finishing touches on our powerpoint that will be shown tomorrow and its looking good! Regarding the speaking for tomorrow night we are still figuring who is saying what and even what we are going to say. Overall we are looking pretty good!
Since our posters got approved yesterday, we were finally able to put up our posters around Konia! I am so excited we were finally able to post them. Tonight I think I will be posting a picture of our poster on our group instagram to get our info on social media too! The group that we have merged with will continue to take data until our presentation on Friday so it will be interesting to see if there are any changes within this week.
I am so happy and relieved because today our posters were approved by our student center to put up around Konia! I think my group and I will probably put them up tomorrow during class Iʻm hoping to put between 20 and 30 up. I think some key places will be on doors and in bathrooms where people actually look at the walls and their surroundings. Also the hallways near the benches in Konia are always busy with students and faculty so we will definitely be posting signs there too!
Today we worked on our presentations in class. We are still deciding who is saying what, but so far my original group is going to share about our media campaign and pretty much everything we have done with that. Iʻm not sure if we are going to share our entire story of how we go to our topic and to the merging of our groups because time is definitely going to limit our presentation to the essentials.
I am very excited because we are one step closer to having our posters up! This morning I sent our poster to Mr. Blake so he can send them into our student center for review! I am hoping we will have these posters up by the end of this week so we can collect data with the posters up. I am also very curious to see if their presence will bring any awareness and change to the waste of energy within Konia.
